Chrysoprase is considered the most valuable stone in the chalcedony group. The Greek name means gold-leek. Deposits occur as nodules or fillings of clefts in serpentine rocks and in weathered materials of nickle ore deposits. Chrysoprase can be found in Australia, Brazil, India, Kazakhastan, Madagascar, Russia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, and California.
